It's this way, see

FOUND ONLINE: The 2007 Daytona 500 saw 61 cars show up to try to qualify for the race.
The 2007 Daytona 500 didn't see anything.
Easy fix: Sixty-one cars showed up to qualify for the 2007 Daytona 500.
FROM THE SAME ARTICLE: When NASCAR waves the green flag on Sunday in Atlanta they will be making some history as the field will consist of less than 40 cars, something that hasn’t happened in a long time.
First, they won't be making history; this has happened before. Second, it would be fewer than, not less than.
FROM A NEWSPAPER ARTICLE: The boys’ basketball teams at Walkertown and Parkland will be under news leadership when the 2016-17 season starts.
The writer is a friend of mine. What bothered me is no one caught the typo in the first sentence of the story. Obviously, it's new leadership.
FROM THE SAME NEWSPAPER: Batts, who graduated from Mount Tabor in 2009 and later graduated from UNC Wilmington in 2004, was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the seventh round of the Major League Baseball Draft in 2014.
That obviously should be 2014, not 2004. Also, I doubt you need graduated twice in one sentence.

The reason

FOUND ON FACEBOOK: I think the reason we're born with two hands is so that we can pet two dogs at once.

I accepted this at first; then I realized it's wordy. If you cut out "the reason", "is" and "that", it means the same thing.
