TODAY'S WORD: HORNSWOGGLE

Today's word of the day is hornswoggle. It's a verb meaning to cheat or swindle.

Dictionary.com says that its origin is obscure and adds that an 1829 periodical from The Virginia Literary Museum claimed the word came from Kentucky and defined it as “to embarrass irretrievably.”.

(Spellcheck hates it.)

A NEW RECORD

I was just listening to a YouTube video with some guy saying that a Detroit Tiger once hit four doubles in one game, establishing a new major-league record.

Could he have established an OLD record? If you took out new, the sentence would have been fine.
