WORD MAN: I've seen hirsute before, and I've always assumed it means stylish. I was wrong.

Meaning: hairy; shaggy.
Botany, Zoology. covered with long, rather stiff hairs.
of, relating to, or characteristic of hair.

FOUND ONLINE: Maryland trailed by five goals in the fourth quarter and were limited offensively for much of the second half. The Terrapins finally caught fire with six minutes left.

In the United States, Maryland WAS limited offensively. "Maryland were" is the British way of saying it.
