The purpose of this blog

TODAY'S QUESTIONS: People have told me that they can't figure out the purpose of this blog. I think the word definitions and such have confused them.

What would you like to see here? Do you want to hear about the newspaper world? Do you want me to stick to examples of editing? Do you want word definitions?

You can leave comments on this blog or contact me at tgilli52@gmail.com. Thanks.

IT'S OK: I often don't like the contrived headlines for the N.Y. Post -- they often try too hard to be cute. Today, then ran the headline about Phil Collins trying (and failing) with soul standards -- Collins fans don't get their Phil. It's obviously a take on getting their fill, and this time it works. Collins' fans didn't get the music -- or the Phil -- they were expecting.

Blogs to watch

TO BLOG: Take a look at Heather Awad's blog, "Poetry, Persuasion, and Prerogative." Sort of alliterative. Like my blogs, it's on Blogspot.

VISUAL BLOG: Maira Kalman has a new visual blog on George Washington. Her blogs are always terrific.

HEAD BLOG: Check out this N.Y. Times blog entry on Crash Blossoms, headlines with unintended meanings.

EDITING/PROOFREADING: Here's a nuts-and-bolts blog about editing and proofreading.

HOPE BLOG: You might check out Hope Clark's blog. She's done well with her FundsForWriters.com
