I hope the writer meant extended rather than extending.
I also don't care for Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers. That's called a stacked modifier.

Talking about the team
I realize that this is all personal preference, but I hate the use of the word team here.
As I wrote in my column from Arlington, the Green Bay Packers are a deep team, a team that showed a lot of preserverance, a team that went the long route on the road the entire length of the playoffs and played the NFL's most successful franchise and still won it all.

There are is overused
I know I'm getting nitpicky, but I'm making a point. Take this sentence found online:
But for old-school football, it would be hard to top the times when the Green Bay Packers had two fullbacks — there are teams that do not even have one true fullback — and a running back, James Starks, on the field at the same time.
Let's look at the part between the dashes. You can change that to this — some teams do not even have one true fullback. The word there is highly overused.
If you're wondering the meaning of nitpicky, it means overly critical, especially on trivial matters; focused on only trivial aspects.
