WORD MAN: RAILLERY

I'm reading the novel The Cat Who Turn On and Off by Lilian Jackson Braun, and I came across the unfamiliar word raillery. It's a noun meaning good-humored teasing.

I just found supercilious, an adjective meaning behaving or looking as though one thinks one is superior to others.

Next, I found convergent concominant strabismus, or esotropia. It is an eye misalignment where one or both eyes turn inward, often due to excessive convergence during focusing efforts.

I also found propinquity, which means the state of being close to someone or something; proximity.

Next came ineffable, which means too great or extreme to be expressed or described in words.

Then there was eleemosynary foundation. Eleemosynary relates to a charity.

The writer mentioned that someone had an ORV. It stands for off-road recreational vehicle, a motor-driven machine that can travel on various natural terrains.

Another one: A porte-cochΓ¨re is a doorway or covered structure for vehicle passage to a building or courtyard. Learn about its history, examples, and distinction from a portico or carport.
