What Are ‘Imprecations’? | Quick English Word Explained in 30 Seconds!

I'm reading the novel A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs, and Burroughs twice used IMPRECATIONS within two sentences.

Imprecations are simply curse words or profanity.

John Carter was the protagonist of A Princess of Mars.
