WORD MAN: MINARETS

I'm reading the Arthur C. Clarke novel The Hammer of God, and I just came across the word MINARETS.

A minaret is a slender tower, typically part of a mosque, with a balcony from which a muezzin calls Muslims to prayer.

Similar words: turret, spire, belfry, obelisk.

Next up is SELENOLOGYthe scientific study of the moon. The Artemis II folks are probably aware of that word.

Next: EUPHONIOUS. It means (of sound, especially speech) pleasing to the ear: "a stream of fine, euphonious phrases."

Similar: pleasant-sounding, sweet-sounding, mellow, mellifluous, dulcet.

I might have gone with sonorous.

Next: ENCYCLICAL, a papal letter sent to all bishops of the Roman Catholic Church.

Next: FRIABLEeasily crumbled or pulverized. As in the outer part of a "killer" asteroid.

Next: ANTIPODEIn geography, the antipode of any spot on Earth is the point on Earth's surface diametrically opposite to it.

MORE: Clarke writes that, in the far future, earth will have three billion people. Wow.
