Made his way; they should walk away

One of my greatest writing pet peeves is "made his way."

I once started reading a chapter in a novel and noticed "made his way" eight times on one page and 40 times in the chapter. The protagonist didn't walk, strut or stroll. He didn't move, slide, wend or slink. He didn't even matriculate, saunter or hurry.

He made his way, over and over and over. Bah humbug!

Requests: If you have questions or comments, I'd like to hear them. Is there a subject you'd like to hear about? Is there a favorite writing/editing/proofreading blog that you'd like me to know about (and perhaps write about)?

And finally, would you like to get in your two cents' worth, either as a guest blogger or in a Q&A?
