Winter Games

I was just now watching a famous hockey movie, and they had a sign that said Olympic Winter Games. For some reason, that sounds wrong to me.

Winter Olympic Games seems right to me. After all, they are the Olympic Games, so those two words should stay together.

What do YOU think? Or does it matter?

  1. I would agree that generally Winter Olympic Games would be the preferred form, but within a context of writing specifically about winter games a different order could be appropriate. So, just as Olympic team games, Olympic track athletics etc, you could opt for Olympic winter games - but the capitalisation would be different.

  2. Perhaps that's true with capitalization in British English, Rob. I haven't heard from you in a while; what's going on?

  3. Been moving house - basically living in two places at once for several months, butat last we are fully installed in our new home in Leominster, Herefordshire.
So it's back to work on my new novel next month when we come back from visiting our son in Spain.

I might reconnect with your email group soon.
