The appropriate emotion

Found online: Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wears his emotions on his sleeves after games, win or lose. The appropriate emotion after Thursday's 38-31 loss to the Washington Redskins was humbled.

The appropriate emotion wasn't humbled; it was humility.

Not sure about that

I found this sentence online today, and it bothers me:

The Redskins hit the practice field Wednesday morning for a walk-through and for the first time since 2007, John Beck was slated to be their starter in a regular season game.

This reads like John Beck was the Redskins' starter in 2007; at least that's the way I read it. Beck was the starter for a few games for the Miami Dolphins in 2007. He hasn't started for anyone since.

I would also hyphenate regular-season game.
