Kind of supernovae

FOUND ONLINE: In 2011 a team of astronomers used just this kind of supernovae to measure luminosity independently of distance -- and in the process, discover the existence of dark energy.

I wonder why they used supernovae, the plural form of supernova. I see no reason to do so. I think supernova would have worked fine here.

10 times further

FOUND ONLINE: So, each day, they still swim over 10 times further than the swimming component of an Iron Man Triathlon (3.86 kilometres).

Distance is farther, so this should be 10 times farther.
