TODAY'S QUOTE: "To me, the greatest pleasure of writing is not what it's about, but the music the words make." — Truman Capote.
When I think of Capote, the books (and movies) Breakfast at Tiffany's and In Cold Blood come to mind.
TODAY'S WORD: The dictionary says that regale means to entertain sumptuously, to feast with delicacies or to give some pleasure or amusement. I've never thought of the word that way. My dad used to regale us with stories (and I miss them). I guess it's another way of looking at it.
TODAY IN HISTORY: It was 117 years ago today (1883) that the most powerful volcanic eruption in recorded history happened on Krakatau (also called Krakatoa). The eruption was heard 3,000 miles away; the explosions threw five cubic MILES of earth 50 miles into the air and created 120-foot tsunamis, and 36,000 people were killed.
TODAY'S EDITING WEB SITE: Look at this blog on becoming an editor. I took the traditional route (journalism school, several newspaper jobs), but there's no one way to be an editor. This person writes from experience (as most of us do).
