Smile to her face

Found in a novel: ... she added, "I AM polite," bringing a smile to Darragh's face.

Where else would a smile be? It HAS to be on her face.

... she added, "I AM polite," making Darragh smile.


I'm not complaining about the writing here; I'm just making a point. There's usually a shorter and easier way to say something, if you look for it.
