Farther down the road

FOUND ONLINE: The President also has a tendency to prioritize short-term gains and ignore potential serious damage from his strategies farther down the road.

If you're actually talking about traveling down the road, farther would be correct. Farther is all about distance.

In this case, further study is needed. I think farther down the road refers to time, not distance.

Also, I don't see any reason to uppercase President here. He's not divine.
