A redundant divorce

Some people will think I'm being picky, but, again, I'm making a point.

Duerson filed for divorce from his wife a year later.

His wife? Who else would he want to divorce? His lawyer? His tailor? His personal chef? If you said that Duerson filed for divorce a year later, would the sentence be less understandable?
