Five 3-point shooters

FOUND ONLINE: That his players were able to spend considerable time preparing for the Wildcats, who often put five 3-point shooters on the court, worked to UVA's advantage, Bennett said.

I like this writer, but I need to point this out. This is a confusing sentence, and I'd simplify it.

Bennett said it worked to UVA's advantage that his players were able to spend considerable time preparing for the Wildcats, who often put five 3-point shooters on the court.

Or: Bennett said it helped that his players were able to prepare for the Wildcats, who often put five 3-point shooters on the court.

The first alternative is still too long, but it's not as convoluted. The second alternative is much shorter.
