The Tar Heel State?

I just found a story online titled Why is North Carolina Called “The Tar Heel State”?

The problem is that North Carolina isn't the Tar Heel State; it's the Tarheel State (a minor but notable difference). The University of North Carolina's sports teams are called the Tar Heels.
