WORD MAN: ONOMATOPOEIA

What is onomatopoeia? 🤔 | Onomatopoeia in English | Learn with examples

I'm re-reading the Lilian Jackson Braun book The Cat Who Said Cheese and came across ONOMATOPOEIA. It means the formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named (e.g. cuckoo, sizzle): "a relatively large number of bird names arise by onomatopoeia."

The use of onomatopoeia for literary effect: "the language in her picture books is notable for its playfulness and onomatopoeia."

I just found the term MYCOLOGICAL EXPERT. Since the subject was mushrooms, I knew where this was going.

Mycology is the branch of biology concerned with the study of fungi, including their taxonomy, genetics, biochemical properties, and use by humans.
