Whomever, whatever

Who vs. whom: Let's look at a few recent incidences of who and whom (or whomever).

No. 1: In his first game against a top-flight NFL defense, Tannehill looked like the raw, inexperienced rookie whom he is.

Sigh. Here we go again with whom. Whom isn't necessary here. Who would be fine. In fact, you can just say rookie he is.


No. 2: But whomever lands the No. 6 job will likely give it up when Mike Neal returns after his four-game suspension.


Yes, whomever doesn't cut it here. Go with But whoever lands the No. 6 job ... 


No. 3: Whom is he going to throw to in Washington?



I'd change that to this: Who will he throw to in Washington?


Whom is really overrated.
