FOUND ONLINE: The longer you put off car maintenance for, the higher the mechanic bill can potentially climb.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd change it this way:

The longer you put off car maintenance, the higher the mechanic bill can potentially climb.

I cut out the word for, and I don't see a change is the writer's meaning. As always, what do you think?
