A killer Sting Ray; or is it Stingray?

FOUND IN A NOVEL: The Sting Ray was in the carport, with the top down.

Sting Ray refers to a Corvette Stingray, and yes Stingray is one word, not two.

Actually, the 1963-1967 edition of the 'Vette was called the Sting Ray; the rest were the Stingray. So Sting Ray COULD have been correct.
