Fat chance and slim chance

Thoughts for today: Why do they say "after dark" when it's really "after light"? ... Why do "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean the same thing?

Wrong word: I was looking up something about James Bond and came across this sentence — "The films had lost their taught edge." I think they mean taut edge.
