Write tight

Found online: They are a team that played its most complete game against Houston, in the opener, and one that has turned in scattered football ever since.

This sentence isn't bad, but I thought I'd give you something to think about. A tighter way to say is:

They played their most complete game against Houston, in the opener, and they have turned in scattered football ever since.

In fiction, people often say that someone is a man who talks too much. Why not just say that he talks too much?
