Editing a sports sentence

Found online (in part): ... and one of the best NFL LB’s in the history of the NFL.

I'd make three changes. One, you don't need NFL twice. Two, I doubt you need an apostrophe in LBs. Three, you can simply say NFL history.

... and one of the best LBs in NFL history.

Headline found online: Is Carpenter about to get the boot?

I like it, since Dan Carpenter is (or was) the Miami Dolphins' kicker. The kicker puts the boot to the ball.
