Holdout hope

FOUND ONLINE: The Miami Dolphins continue to holdout hope that they can re-sign unrestricted free agent Kenny Stills

A holdout is someone who won't work until he/she gets more money (or something else he/she wants). In this cast, the Dolphins hold out hope with Stills.

FROM THE SAME ARTICLE: At just 28, Miami could ink him to a long-term deal if they wanted to.

It sounds like Miami is 28 years old, not Kenny Britt. Also, I don't like ink as a verb.

Miami could sign the 28-year-old Britt to a long-term deal if they wanted to.
