Media is or media are

This headline makes me wonder:

How Social Media Is Muddying the Waters for Jobseekers


The problem is that the word media is already plural, so social media are muddying the waters for job seekers. Yes, I also think job seekers is two words.

  1. I agree with the "are"...but I would have written:
    "How Social Media Muddies the Waters for Job Seekers." Saves a few letters and avoids the singular/plural issue entirely.
    (Miss you, Tom, from your old list serv and sometimes miss those heated discussions when I'm not the one under attack from the guy in Nine Mile Falls for writing for anthologies.)

  3. Terri, I have to agree with Rob here. Muddy rather than muddies...

    As for the freelance network, check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FreelanceWriters-n-Editors/. Rob is a member of the network. We need more active members, though.
