An incorrect headline

Technically, this headline (found online) is wrong.

Kurt Busch wins first Nationwide race since 2006

Busch didn't win the first Nationwide race since 2006. They've had plenty of races since then.

Busch earns his first Nationwide victory since 2006

People usually don't see the distinction, but it's there.

  1. Maybe my brain isn't working today. I'm sure there's a simple explanation that I'm not seeing -- why is it wrong to say he won a race? Which part is incorrect?

I was curious, so I'll go out on a limb here and risk looking dumb.

  2. Jan, the headline says Kurt Busch wins first Nationwide race since 2006. It wasn't the first Nationwide race since 2006, and it wasn't HIS first Nationwide race since 2006.

It was his first Nationwide victory since 2006. It's subtle, but it's not the same thing.
